Adaptive ecosystem management and large mammal monitoring

Summary: This project involves wild pigs in a more general framework including ecosystem biodiversity, ecosystem services, trophic web theory and human impact. The science of complexity is ideal to deal with the emergent properties of ecosystem such as trophic cascades. There are two distinct parts of the project. (1) modelling trophic webs and develop a theory for optimal ecosystem management. This section is carried on in cooperation with Massimo Materassi and Stefano Boccaletti both colleagues at ISC. (2) wildlife monitoring is a fundamental part of adaptive management approach. To be developed, appropriate monitoring methods have to be validated using large sets of numerical simulations. In collaboration with Giacomo Santini of the University of Firenze.
